| Especially in these times of dramatic changes executives ask for assistance in coping with a number of issues. These issues are both of private nature and concern the career of the individual. The situation is often that the executive has been working hard and long hours sometimes for years. All of a sudden changes come and disrupt the normal run of the mill. The executive might encounter changes in responsibility or even having to be laid off. Dramatic changes for anyone. Having coached executives for 20 years my experience is that most top managers haven’t thought much about what they would do if they encountered a situation where their lives, their status and their income dramatically would change.

| Many of the managers in the companies I work for have the problem that they all are very busy and often don’t have time to meet. This lack of communication fosters a lack of coordination and subsequently arguments and in some cases lack of trust between managers. This is not only damaging the company, but has a stressful effect on the individual manager. Top management must work as a group - a group that should be functioning as one coherent team. In some of these cases, often when it has become very serious, I am called in and asked what to do. There is never one simple answer. In some cases where trust has been broken I suggest coaching of the entire top management group.

| After my MBA studies at the University of Wisconsin I got a job as VP of Production and R&D in one larger international company in North Carolina. Together with my staff we were responsible for planning and building factory plants around the world. Top management also included the VP of IT, a very central position for our type of operation. We hired the best and most knowledgeable people possible from the best universities, but to no avail. Also the last one that was hired did not live up to our expectations. Departments did not get their things on time and there were constant misunderstandings. So again we had to look for a new chief of IT.

| In my younger days I took various educations starting with engineering then management and after that an MBA where my focus was on marketing strategy and consumer behaviour. After that I also studied sports psychology. I studied out of curiosity. I wanted to see the bigger picture and how different areas worked, in the hope of becoming a good manager and leader one day. After finishing my engineering studies I got a job as a planning engineer responsible for purchasing and setting up production lines. The plans were based on the plans handed to me by my marketing colleagues. My experience was that I did not understand my marketing colleagues and they definitely did not understand how their constant last minute changing of plans affected our production flow and thus the costs.

| I have just participated in the first ever World Winter Masters Games 2010 Bled her in Slovenia. There were 3000 participants from 43 countries. A great event with people of all ages. I have earlier participated in the summer World Masters Games in my sport rowing. It is always a great pleasure to see so many fit people of all ages and of both sexes compete as best they can. The competition is fierce since all of us want to win. The same was the case when I was participating in the cross-country competitions. Here I am not an expert and I believe I was number 3 from the back, but no matter. These old champion skiers many former Olympic champions were not easy to beat. But I had great fun and I met some fine and interesting people. The cross-country competitions were held in Pokljuka close to Bled and 30 minutes from where I live. It was the most fantastic weather. Sunshine and minus 3 to 5 degrees centigrade. Absolutely a dream. I participated in two races on two different days. One 10 km race in free style (skating technique) and one 5 km race in classic style. With my friend Viktor I was taking a break and a coffee at the restaurant overlooking the biathlon shooting range.
